It is indigenous to the Taita, Kikuyu and Kamba tribes of Kenya. These Kenyan weavers begin by stripping the sisal plant's outer layers, leaving the plant still able to grow. The weaver uses threads from the pale colored layers that have dried out for a day to make a bag. A design pattern is finalized. The weaver then boils the threads to be used with water and dye to set the bag's colors. Now the weaving begins. Two single threads are twined to form one strong thread. Many such threads are woven. It is from these threads that a sisal bag is made. It takes between two and three weeks to complete a bag. Most weavers have to look after their households; therefore, weaving is done whenever they have the time<br>Item:<br>This one-of-a-kind shoulder bag was handmade by the women of the Maasai region of Kenya.<br>The bag is made of brown goatskin leather with black designs across the front, sides, and bottom.<br>Goatskin is strong, durable, tougher than cow leather, and is water resistant.<br>The body of the bag is a woven texture of sisal in black, orange, gray, red, yellow, and white.<br>There is a single compartment (unlined) and a padded carry handle.<br>The front features a zipper opening to the inside pocket with pulls on either end across the front in a semi-circle.<br>Dimensions:<br>Width (side to side):<br>14” W<br>Depth (front to back):<br>5” D<br>Height (bottom to top):  8" H<br>43" long adjustable shoulder strap (not removable).<br>Condition:<br>Like New, Never Used<br>2” of stitching loose across the front leather.
